Etymology: Elements ---- Closed place 口 + a person sitting on his knees巴. Phonetic series 邑. Place encircled by a wall 口where people live. 巴 was a kneeling person, as people seated in old China. This is a radical (simplified as 阝) that forms part of characters related to cities, always found on the right. When 阝 is found on the left part of the character it is simplified from阜 fù mound, though sometimes it is used denoting a place. |
